My Mother was from the Midwest - Noel, Missouri, and known as Aunt Jewel to my cousins.

She had lots of colloquialisms, she would say "You got a hitch in your get-a-long", she meant hurry up. We had a old fashion toaster, the one where the doors open on the sides of the toaster, you invariably burn it. She would say "Burn it black , scratch it yellow." Then off to the sink it would go and the black carbon would fly.

When I did something dumb as a kid, she would repeat this little phrase "If your brains were all dynamite it wouldn't shake a hair on your head." Later I tried to make since of this, Did she mean my skull was too hard and thick or was there no brains? I would like to think it is not the former, because with a thick skull I would have some brains.

Anyway she had a heart of gold and I lived thru it.

"She was a great Mother."
