Annual Virginia City Rendezvous
Virginia City, Nevada
August 2003

train

In August, the Mojave Muleskinners enjoy rendezvousing in Virginia City, Nevada. In the time between the early 1860īs through the 1890īs, Virginia City was one of the largest and most sophisticated cities in the west.   The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is by far the most famous of all American short lines. In its hey-day, as many as 45 trains a day arrived and departed Virginia City hauling millions of dollars in gold and silver ore from the Comstock. The weekend was spent robbing the train, gambling and the ladies did plenty of shopping! We again spent an extra day in Bodie Ghost Town, California - an authentic abandoned mining town in the Eastern Sierra. The Mojave Muleskinners had special permission, for the day, to wear full costume (including guns) into this historical place for pictures. We give our sincere thanks to the Bodie California Park Ranger Service for giving us this unique honor again this year!

"My family and I just happened to be visiting Bodie
(for our first time) on August 18th -- we had no idea
that your group was going to be at the park that day.
The period dress and reenactment made for a stellar
visit -- our seven year-old son was especially
thrilled when your members took the time to speak to
him both in- and out-of-character.  You have an
outstanding organization!"
