Pioneertown, California
"
How The West Was Once"

Pioneertown was built as a movie set for western movies of Gene Autry, and others.  The movie set was to provide a place for the actors to live, and have their house used as part of a movie set.  Some of the original investors in the town were Roy Rogers, who also built the Pioneer Bowl, Sons of the Pioneers, which the town was named after.

Pioneertown is about 130 miles east of Hollywood. Take Interstate 10 about 100 miles to Highway 62 (29 Palms Highway - Joshua Tree National Park). About 25 miles NE on Highway 62 to Yucca Valley. Look for the sign; 'Pioneer Town'. Then left (north) on Pioneertown Road (about 5 miles). First, you'll see the sign; 'Pioneertown 1946', then look for Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace or The Pioneer Bowl.
